Lightened marble is a material composed of thin slab of natural stone , it can be as thin as 3 mm, glued by a vacuum resin process to a sheet of Honeycomb, or also called sandwich panels. Honeycomb is a material that is widely used in aeronautics, and is composed of an aluminum honeycomb structure sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass, its main characteristics are as follows:
- extreme lightness
- high compressive strength
- does not rot
- fire retardant
- corrosion resistance
these characteristics make it perfect for architectural use.The combination of L’honeycomb and natural stone gives us a high-tech material that can weigh up to a third less than a natural stone slab of the same thickness.
Because of its physical characteristics, Carrara marble lends itself perfectly to this type of processing
Where is lightened marble used ?
Compared to the traditional material, it has no limitation of use; on the contrary, thanks to its special lightness it can be used where traditional marble could not be employed due to weight problems.
Without a shadow of a doubt, lightened marble is the prince of luxury naval cladding; being able to install this type of cladding on boats without having to deal with weight problems anymore has been one of the greatest revolutions in the way of design in the last 15 years.
However, boating is not the only field of use where this type of material has brought about a small revolution, in fact, thanks to its special technical characteristics, lightened marble finds use in various fields such as:
- furniture upholstery
- nautical sector
- renovations of historic buildings
- facade cladding
- design.
